Bachman Turner Overdrive is a Vancouver-based quartet formed in the early 1970s featuring Randy Bachman. Hits include You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet (1974) and Takin' Care Of Business (1974). Harold Ballard, who was born in 1903, was the owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He died on April 11, 1990. "Bambi" Bambenek fled to Thunder Bay, Ontario, after escaping from prison in 1990 and was caught by the RCMP in 1992. The former Playboy Club waitress was convicted of murdering Christine Schultz, Bambenek's husband's ex-wife in 1982. The Band is a Toronto-based sextet formed in the late 1960s as a back-up band for Ronnie Hawkins and later Bob Dylan. Fredrick L. Banting was born in Alliston, Ontario on November 14, 1891 and died on February 21, 1941. With Charles H. Best, they created insulin and Banting was awarded the Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine in 1923. Barenaked Ladies was formed by lead singers Steven Page and Ed Robertson in 1988 as a comedy duo. They would meet their band mates at a band camp in 1990 and started performing as a group. Their hits include If I Had A Million Dollars and One Week. Jean Béliveau was born in Trois-Rivières, Quebec on August 31, 1931. He played hockey with the Montreal Canadiens from 1953 to 1971. He scored 1,219 points on 507 goals and 712 assists. While leading his team to the playoffs 16 consecutive times and to 10 Stanley Cup championships, he also set the NHL record for the most points scored in postseason games--176; 79 goals and 97 assists. In 1956 and again in 1964, Beliveau was named the league's most valuable player and was chosen to the NHL all-star team ten times. He was named to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972, the year after he retired. Alexander Graham Bell was born in Scotland on March 3, 1847 and died August 2, 1922. After Bell's two brothers died of tuberculosis, and he was threatened by the disease, his family moved in 1870 to Brantford, Ontario. Bell patented the telephone in 1876 and 1877. Marilyn Bell was born in Toronto on October 19, 1937. She was the first person to swim across Lake Ontario Richard Bennett was born at Hopewell, Nova Scotia on July 3, 1870. He became Canada's fourteenth prime minister on August 7, 1930 until October 23, 1935. He died on June 27, 1947. Chris Benoit was born on May 21, 1967, in Montreal and was a professional wrestler. He lived in Edmonton and trained at Stu Hart's wrestling academy. He performed in Extreme Championship Wrestling, World Championship Wrestling, and World Wrestling Entertainment. On June 25, 2007, Benoit was found dead in his home in Fayetteville, Georgia, along with his wife, Nancy Daus, and his 7-year old son, Daniel. Charles H. Best was born in West Pembroke, Maine on February 27, 1899 and died on March 31, 1978. As a medical student with Sir Frederick G. Banting, he helped create insulin. However he was not awarded the Nobel Prize which annoyed Banting who felt Best deserved recognition. Best served as director of the Banting-Best Department of Medical Research and as head of the department of physiology at the University of Toronto. Bif Naked (Beth Hopkins), who grew up in Winnipeg and currently lives in Vancouver, is a punk rock singer/songwriter. Her hits include I Love Myself Today (2001) and Choking On The Truth. Billy Bishop was born in Owen Sound, Ontario on February 8, 1894. He is credited for shooting down 72 German aircraft including 25 in a 10-day period in 1918. He received the Victoria Cross, the highest award for valor in the British Commonwealth. He died in Palm Beach, Florida, on September 10, 1956. Conrad Black was born in Montreal and was the chairman of Argus Corporation, a large newspaper chain. Toe Blake was born in Victoria Mines, Ontario on August 21, 1912. He was a left winger for the Montreal Canadiens from 1936 to 1948 and a coach for Montreal from 1955 to 1968. As the coach, he won 8 Stanley Cups. Blue Rodeo is a Toronto-based group founded in 1984. Their hits include Try (1987) and Five Days In July. The group has just released a new album. Roberta Bondar is Canada's first female astronaut. Sir Robert Borden was born at Grand Pré, Nova Scotia, on June 26, 1854. He became Canada's ninth prime minister on October 10, 1911 until July 20, 1920 when he resigned. He died in Ottawa on June 10, 1937. Mike Bossy was born in Montreal on January 22, 1957. He played hockey with the New York Islanders from 1977 to 1987. He was an 8- time all-star and had nine consecutive 50-goal seasons. Robert Bourassa was born in Montreal on July 14, 1933 and was the Quebec premier from 1970-76. Ray Bourque was born in Montreal on December 28, 1960. He played with the Boston Bruins and the Colorado Avalanche as a defenceman. Sir Mackenzie Bowell was born in England in 1823 and came to Canada in 1832. He became Canada's sixth prime minister on December 21, 1891 until April 27, 1896. He died in Belleville, Ontario, on December 10, 1917. Dave Broadfoot was born on December 5, 1925, in North Vancouver, British Columbia. In 1943, he joined the merchant navy serving until 1947. He gained experience for a professional career in theatre by working community theatre, eventually gravitating towards comedy. For ten years he was a writer and performer in the influential stage revue, Spring Thaw. From 1973 to 1993, he was a member of the radio version of the Royal Canadian Air Farce. He retired from regular performing when the troupe moved to television, although he continued to appear on the show as an occasional guest star. In addition to his traditional stand-up routines, Broadfoot has created a number of characters such as Big Bobby Clobber, David J. Broadfoot, and Sgt. Renfrew of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He is the author of an autobiography, Old Enough to Say What I Want. He retired in 2005. Kurt Browning was born in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta on June 18, 1966. He is a professional figure skater and was the 1989 and 1990 men's world champion. Mike Bullard, who is from Cambridge, Ontario, is a comedian and had a talk show from 1997 to 2003. Tommy Burns was born in Hanover, Ontario on June 17, 1881 and died in 1951. He held the world heavyweight title from 1906 to 1908 and had 11 successful title defences. Raymond Burr was born in New Westminister, British Columbia. He starred as Perry Mason in t.v. series of the same name and was the American visiting Japan in the original Godzilla movie.
