S - Canadian Effect
SCTV, Second City Television, was a Canadian television sketch comedy show offshoot from the Toronto troupe of The Second City. It ran from 1976 to 1984.
The original cast were John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Catherine O'Hara, Harold Ramis and Dave Thomas.
Rick Moranis, Tony Rosato and Robin Duke joined the cast for Season 3 to replace Candy and O'Hara. Martin Short joined the cast at the tail-end of Season 4 to replace Thomas and Moranis, while John Hemphill and Mary Charlotte Wilcox appeared semi-regularly through Seasons 5 and 6.
Louis St. Laurent was born in Compton, Quebec, on
February 1, 1882, and was a prime minister of Canada from November 15, 1948 to
June 21, 1957. He negotiated with India, Pakistan and Ceylon to stay in the
British Commonwealth, made the Supreme Court of Canada the final Canadian court
of appeal and developed an agreement with the U.S. for the St. Lawrence Seaway.
He died in Quebec City on July 25, 1973.
Terry Sawchuk was born in Winnipeg in 1929. He was
the goaltender for the Detroit Red Wings and is all-time shutout leader with
103. He died in 1970
Sandra Schmirler was born in 1963. She won gold for
women's curling at 1998 Olympics. She died from cancer on March 2, 2000.
Barbara Ann Scott was born in Ottawa on May 9, 1928.
She won the women's figure skating world championship in 1947 and 1948 and won
the gold medal at the 1948 Olympics.
George Selkirk was born in Huntsville, Ontario in
1899. He replaced Babe Ruth in the New York Yankees outfield in 1934 and he
played with the Yankees for 9 seasons. He died in 1987.

Saskatchewan in 1902. He played defence with the Boston Bruins.
Martin Short was born in Hamilton, Ontario, on March
26, 1951. He is member of SCTV.
Joe Shuster was born in Toronto on July 10, 1914.
He co-created Superman. He died in Los Angeles on June 30, 1993.
Darryl Sittler was born in St. Jacobs, Ontario, on
September 18, 1950. He played hockey with the Toronto Maple Leafs and
Philadelphia Flyers. He scored a record 10 points in one game and tied the
modern one-game goal record of 6 in 1976.
Sloan is a Halifax-based band formed in 1991. The
band members are Jay Ferguson, Chris Murphy, Patrick Pentland and Andrew Scott.
Their songs include Money City Maniac and If It Feels Good, Do
It.

Conn Smythe was born in Toronto in 1895. He was the
hockey director and owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was driving force for
building Maple Leaf Gardens. He died in 1980.
Snow (Darrin O'Brien) was born on October 30, 1969, in Toronto and is an award-winning Canadian reggae musician.
His 1993 debut album was 12 Inches of Snow. The album was produced shortly before Snow was imprisoned for a year on an assault charge. Upon his release from prison, his first single Informer became a chart topping hit.
Hank Snow was born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, on May
9, 1914. He was a country singer-songwriter and his songs include I'm Movin'
On. He died on December 20, 1999.

Steppenwolf was a Toronto-based rock band formed in
the late 60s. Their songs include Born To Be Wild (1968).
Star Wars
Hayden Christensen plays Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in Episode 2 and 3.
An Edmonton software game company, Bio Ware, has created the new Star Wars
game called Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The online RPG game
will take place 4,000 years before the original films.

Elvis Stojko was born in Newmarket, Ontario, on
March 22, 1972. He was the first figure skater to perform a quadruple jump
combination. He won the 1994 and 1995 men's world championship and a silver at
the 1998 Olympics.
Lance Storm was born on April 3, 1969, in Sarnia, Ontario, and he is a semi-retired Canadian professional wrestler. He is best known in the western world for his work in World Wrestling Entertainment, Extreme Championship Wrestling, and World Championship Wrestling. He runs a pro wrestling school Storm Wrestling Academy in Calgary, Alberta, and occasionally works in the independent circuit.
Teresa Stratas was born in Toronto on May 26,
1938. She is an operatic soprano.
Trish Stratus was born on December 18, 1975, in Richmond Hill, Ontario, and she is a former Canadian fitness model and semi-retired professional wrestler. Formerly working for World Wrestling Entertainment, Stratus retired from WWE on September 17, 2006 after winning her seventh WWE Women's Championship. Stratus is the first in WWF/E history to have held the WWE Women's Championship seven times. She is also one of only four women to have held the WWE Hardcore Championship.
Sum 41 is a rock band from Ajax, Ontario. The current members are Deryck Whibley (lead vocals, guitar, keyboard/piano), Cone McCaslin (bass), and Steve Jocz (drums/vocals).
The band was formed on the 41st day of summer. Their hit songs include Makes No Difference (2000), In Too Deep (2001) and What We're All About (2002), which is on the Spiderman soundtrack.

Donald Sutherland, was born in Saint John, New
Brunswick, on July 19, 1935, and is the father of Kiefer Sutherland. Donald
starred in the movies The Dirty Dozen (1967), M*A*S*H (1970) and Backdraft (1991) and as well as television shows including a voice-over
on The Simpsons.
Kiefer Sutherland, who was born in London, England,
on December 21, 1966, is the son of Canadian-born Donald Sutherland. Kiefer has
starred in movies including Stand By Me and is currently starring in the
t.v. show 24.
David Suzuki was born in Vancouver on March 24,
1936. He is a scientist, environmentalist and host of the t.v. show The
Nature of Things.
